Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effect of government expenditure and institutional quality on income inequality in 11 ASEAN countries. The study uses secondary data obtained from official websites of the World Bank and World Inequality Database for the period 2008-2022. The analytical method employed is panel data regression with Fixed Effect Model, and the research scope covers 11 ASEAN countries. The results show that government expenditure and institutional quality affect income inequality in 11 ASEAN countries. Partially, government expenditure, institutional quality, and the control variable of tax revenue have negative and significant effects, while trade has a negative but insignificant effect on income inequality in 11 ASEAN countries.
