Abstract

This research is about the conversion of rubber plantations into oil palm plantations that has occurred in recent years in Lubuk Mumpo Village, Gunung Megang Sub-district, Muara Enim Regency. This phenomenon is driven by the unstable fluctuation of rubber prices, which has encouraged farmers to switch to oil palm cultivation, considered to be more promising. The objectives of this study are to identify the conversion patterns implemented by farmers, analyze the factors influencing their decision to convert, compare the profitability between rubber and oil palm farming, and identify the implementation of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). The results show that farmers applied a gradual or sporadic conversion pattern. Significant factors influencing the conversion decision included rubber price, age of rubber trees, and rubber productivity. Meanwhile, farmer's age, total household income, rubber farming costs, and land area had no significant effect. Oil palm farming proved to be more profitable, with an NPV value of Rp291.730.538,- compared to Rp128.533.503,- for rubber farming. The implementation of GAP in Lubuk Mumpo Village was generally adequate, covering all stages from land preparation to post-harvest.
