Abstract

Background: About 2,8% of children aged three years above who brush their teeth properly. Toothbrushing is the most effective method to prevent plaque accumulation. Toothbrush bristle design is one of the factors that effect the success of brushing teeth. Aim: To find out the effect of toothbrush bristle design on dental plaque score of 12-15 years old student in Al Azhar Cairo Junior High School Palembang. Method: This reaserch was quasi experiment with pre and post test with control group design which was done at 50 students who were divided into five groups based on the toothbrush bristle design (the group that used flat, cross, zigzag, concave and bilevel bristles) and each consisted of 10 students. The plaque index that used in this study is Turesky modification of the Quigley-Hein Plaque Index. Data were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA test. Result: There was no significant different between the groups (p>0,05). Conclusion: There was no effect of toothbrush bristle design on dental plaque score of 12-15 years old student in Al Azhar Cairo Junior High School Palembang.
