Abstract

The research discussed the application of a porous fertigation system as an irrigation method in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) cultivation. The system is designed to deliver water and nutrients evenly to the root zone using porous emitters. The research was conducted at the Plant House of Sriwijaya University from November 2024 to February 2025. The study applied watering durations of 2 and 3 minutes, nutrient concentrations of 500-2300 ppm and 700-2500 ppm, and two types of growing media including ultisol soil with husk charcoal and ultisol soil with cocopeat. Parameters observed included air temperature and humidity, conductivity of the emitter material, discharge and flow uniformity, solution temperature and pH, soil temperature and pH, plant growth, water productivity, and nutrient consumption. Results show that the porous fertigation system has high flow uniformity of up to 99.35% and is able to maintain ideal soil temperature and pH. The best sample was obtained at 2 minutes watering with 700-2500 ppm nutrients and ultisol cocopeat soil mix planting media, which resulted in a plant height of 81.1 cm, 198 leaves, 11 fruits, total fruit weight of 310.67 g, and water productivity of 16.53 kg/m³. Total nutrient consumption during the growth period was recorded at 1247.4 ml.
