Abstract

The purpose of this study is to comparing the soil macrofauna in palm oil plantation and rubber plantation also analyze the soil physics and soil chemicals properties of the research sites. The method used in this study is a detailed level survey method with an area of 10 hectares of research in each location. Determination of the macrofauna extraction points and soil sampling is carried out by systematic sampling of 5 points in each location and each point represents an area of 2 hectares. The soil macrofauna sampling was carried out by two methods, the pitfall trap method for the macrofauna that inhabit the surface of the land and hand sorting method for the macrofauna which inhabits below the ground level. The disturbed soil samples is taken by drilling the soil to a depth of 20 cm and the undisturbed soil samples is taken by soil sample ring. The variables observed in this research were the soil physical properties (soil texture, soil structure, soil water content, soil color and soil temperature) soil chemical properties (soil pH, C-organic, total N, C/N ratio and P-available), diversity index and evenness index. The diversity index were calculated using Shannon-Wiener’s index and evenness index were calculated using Pielou evenness index. To determine the differences between soil macrofauna and chemical properties of the soil in oil palm and rubber plantation, a t-test was performed. T-test results showed that the soil chemical properties, diversity index and evenness index in oil palm plantations and rubber plantations were not significantly different.
