Abstract

This study aims to determine the growth of Eucheuma cottonii seaweed with shelf method that includes: seaweed growth rate, relative growth/weight gain and relative percentage of each level/rack. The experiment was conducted in May- June 2010 in the waters of South Lampung Regency Kalianda. Methods This study is the creation and placement of shelf-rise construction, seed selection, weight, binding, planting and harvesting Eucheuma cottonii, measuring water quality parameters as well as observation of growth include the growth rate and relative growth / relative. Data analysis was performed by Tukey test, where the data rate of growth and relative growth were analyzed by statistical tests using SPSS surface. Results showed an average weight of Eucheuma cottonii contain the highest level I at a depth of 30 cm with 88.1 g / week while the average weight of the lowest levels to a depth of 150 cm-V growth of 20.2 g / week and average The average level of Eucheuma cottonii contained the highest level to a depth of 30 cm-I 8.2% g / day whereas the average growth rate of Eucheuma cottonii lowest level with a depth of 150 cm-V from 4.1% g / day. There was no significant difference between each level, the highest value found at the level to a depth of 30 cm-I of 5.2 grams while the lowest relative growth in the level of 1.4 g V and Level I, II and III (depth of 30, 60, 90 cm) is the best level to do planting Eucheuma cottonii because the growth rate of> 5% g / day.
