Abstract

Research about spatial distribution of sediment characteristics and community structure of macrozoobenthos have been executed on November 17 to 20^ 2009 in Kuala Sugihan estuarine. The purpose of this study is, to measure water quality, studying the spatial distribution of sediment characteristics, knowing the structure of macrozoobenthos communities and study the spatial distribution of macrozoobenthos in Kuala Sugihan estuarine. Data analysis are the spatial distribution of sediment characteristics were evaluated by using Principal Component Analysis (Principal Compoents Analysis, PCA), analysis of macrozoobenthos community structure by determining the value of diversity index (H'), uniformity index (E) and dominance index (C) species and spatial distribution of macrozoobenthos seen ffom the succession of types that are based on ffiction graph of macrozoobenthos dominance as measured ffom the density of species (individu/m2). Based on the results of research that physical-chemical water parameters measured shows still on quality Standard that allowed for marine life (KLH Ministerial Decree No. 51 of 2004). Spatial distribution characteristics of sediments in estuaries Kuala Sugihan PCA analysis based on location A and location B indicates that a station 1 is characterized by low pH and high nitrate content. Station 2 is characterized by high organic matter. Station 3 are characterized by a high content of clay ffactions, while for stations 4 and 5 are characterized by a high density of macrozoobenthos. Macrozoobenthos found in estuarine waters of Kuala Sugihan had 21 species ffom 18 families. Macrozoobenthos densities in study sites ranged ffom 29 - 1274 individu/m2, diversity index value (H ’) ranged ffom 0 - 3.238, the value of uniformity index (E) ranged ffom 0 - 0.375 and values of dominance index (C) ranges ffom 0.144 - 1 which means there are species who dominate at research sites. Spatial distribution of macrozoobenthos communities in Kuala Sugihan estuarine shows the succession of the class Polychaeta population contained in the station 1 to station 3, then was be replaced by a population of class Gastropoda and Crustacea contained on stations 4 and 5 which significantly occurs at location B.
