Abstract

The creative hub in Bukittinggi is designed as a multifunctional space that supports collaboration, innovation, and skill development for creative industry players. The building emphasizes the application of iconic design as the main strategy to create a strong and captivating visual identity. Through this iconic design approach, the building’s form and site layout have been developed into a city landmark that is easily recognized and remembered by visitors. Access to the creative hub is efficiently organized with gateways located on the south, north, and west sides. The arrangement of elements on the site follows a clear hierarchy, positioning the creative hub’s mass as a monumental structure and a focal point of interest. The building features a monumental and symmetrical form that is both distinctive and unique, with a roof inspired by the traditional "gonjong" and buffalo horn shapes, reflecting historical and cultural meanings, thus applying the Symbolism of the Form principle. The façade also incorporates a sense of rhythm through the application of 3D aluminum panels featuring repetitive geometric patterns. In addition, the site includes an open amphitheater that functions as a public relaxation area, further reinforcing the iconic design approach. The Creative Hub accommodates 17 creative economy subsectors, including architecture, game development, multimedia, product design, photography, animation, and digital applications. Within the hub, users engage in core activities such as skill training, exhibitions, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community forums.
