Abstract
This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the probability of workers to work in the formal sector in South Sumatra Province. The data used come from the August 2024 National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas), with a total sample of 13,665 individuals. The analysis is conducted using binary logistic regression on demographic and economic variables, namely gender, age, place of residence, marital status, education level, wage, and working hours. The model also includes two interaction variables between education level and age, and between education level and wage. The results show that all main variables have a significant effect on the probability of working in the formal sector. Workers who are younger, female, unmarried, live in urban areas, have at least a senior high school education, earn wages above the minimum wage, and have longer working hours tend to be more likely to work in the formal sector. The interaction between education and wage shows a positive effect on the probability of working in the formal sector, while the interaction between education and age shows a negative effect.
