Abstract
The rapid growth of the population in Indonesia, particularly in urban areas, has led to an increasing demand for land for construction and household food needs. However, the availability of optimal agricultural land is becoming increasingly limited, necessitating new solutions to meet these demands. To address the limitation of agricultural land in urban areas, a two-layer cultivation approach has been implemented. This study aims to optimise the use of limited space by planting climbing crops such as butternut squash on the upper layer and combining them with crops below, namely white radish, cherry tomatoes, and red lettuce, to determine which crops exhibit adaptive growth under these conditions. The collected data are presented in the form of graphs and tables and are analysed descriptively. The results indicate that the three crops grown under the honey pumpkin canopy were able to grow well, although not optimally. Therefore, the two-layer cultivation system could serve as an innovative solution in urban agriculture, helping to meet food needs amidst the limited availability of urban land.
