Abstract

The cultivation of Brazilian spinach on peatlands that have been damaged requires agricultural cultivation techniques while maintaining soil health by applying chicken manure, rice husk biochar, and NPK fertilizer according to plant needs. The purpose of this study was to determine the best treatment for the effect of various comparisons of planting media and doses of NPK fertilizer in peat soil on the cultivation of brazilian spinach. This study was also conducted to determine the business feasibility of Brazilian spinach cultivation by using a comparison of planting media and NPK fertilizer in peat soil. This research was conducted on farmers' land in Mulya Sari Village, Tanjung Lago District, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra from October to March 2025 with coordinates -2.655346,104.745315, using a Randomized Complete Factorial Design (RALF) consisting of 2 factors, namely the comparison of planting media and the dose of NPK fertilizer. The first factor is the comparison of planting media (B) which consists of 4 combinations, namely B0 = Peat soil: biochar husk: chicken manure (2:1:1), B1 = Peat soil: biochar husk: chicken manure (2:1:2), B2 = Peat soil: biochar husk: chicken manure (2: 2:1), B3 = Peat soil: biochar husk: chicken manure (2:2:2) and the second factor is the dose of NPK fertilizer with 3 levels K0 = 0% recommended dose, K1 = 50% recommended dose (2.5 g/plant), K2 = 100% recommended dose (5 g/plant). There were 12 treatment combinations with 4 replications in which each experimental unit consisted of 1 plant so that there were a total of 48 plants. The work methods of this research include making rice husk biochar, preparation of planting media, selection of Brazilian spinach cuttings, seeding, planting, fertilizing, plant maintenance, and harvesting. The variables observed in this study were plant height, number of leaves, root weight, production weight, soil pH value at the beginning of planting, soil pH value after harvest, and economic analysis. Data were analyzed using ANNOVA or ANAKOVA for the production weight variable. If the F test has a significant effect, it is continued with the 5% BNT test. The results of the study were the combination of the treatment of planting media comparison and the dose of NPK fertilizer had a significant effect on the fresh weight of the roots and the B3K2 treatment was significantly different from the other treatments and became the best treatment because it produced the highest average value of almost all variables. The treatment of comparison of planting media had a real effect on the variable of fresh weight of roots, very real effect on plant height in the 3rd, 4th, 5th week, number of leaves in the 3rd week, soil pH value before and after planting. The treatment combination B1K2 is the highest profit treatment and the most feasible to be continued on a farming scale. Research is recommended regarding the dose of NPK that affects the growth and production of brazilian spinach on peat soil.
