Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of emotion regulation on social media fatigue in students who use social media. The hypothesis in this study is that there is a role of emotion regulation on social media fatigue. The population of this study were students aged 18 to 24 years who had at least 2 social media and actively used at least 7 hours a day. The participants involved totaled 319 people and 95 people for testing, which were taken using purposive sampling technique. The measuring instrument used refers to aspects of emotion regulation based on Gross and Thompson's (2007) theory with a reliability value of 0.918, and social media fatigue based on aspects of Zhang, Shen, Xin, Sun, Wang, Zhang, and Ren (2021) with a reliability value of 0.947. Data analysis was carried out using quadratic polynomial regression. The results of the analysis showed a significance value of 0.000 (p <0.05) with an R square value of 0.103 which indicates that emotion regulation plays a significant role in social media fatigue, with an effective contribution of 10.3%. This finding supports the research hypothesis and shows that emotion regulation contributes to increasing social media fatigue in college students who use social media.
