Abstract

The utilization of social media can be an effective breakthrough for notaries to provide legal education and counseling, given the profound impact of globalization, which has led people to prefer seeking information on social media and the internet over reading books or consulting experts directly. This phenomenon is attributed to several factors, including the ease of access via smartphones, which are widely owned by the public. Leveraging social media can be a suitable approach, as it enables notaries to reach a broader audience and stay abreast of the times. This study aims to enhance public understanding of notary law products by utilizing social media as a platform for legal education. The research employs a normative juridical approach, focusing on written laws. The findings indicate that notaries are authorized to provide legal counseling related to the creation of notarial products, as stipulated in Article 15 paragraph (2) of Law Number 2 of 2014 concerning the Notary Position. However, notaries must observe the boundaries set forth in Article 4 paragraph (3), which prohibits self-promotion using electronic media. In conclusion, notaries can provide legal counseling through social media related to the creation process, while adhering to the boundaries of not disclosing their name and title as a notary and avoiding self-promotional purposes.
