Abstract

Community efforts in meeting food needs, especially vegetable needs, require containers in various aspects of its utilization, both in terms of marketing and cultivation, especially for urban communities where population density affects the increasingly narrow land for agricultural cultivation, so a strategy is needed to utilize narrow land for agricultural cultivation, namely by applying the concept of urban farming in its cultivation. One of the food producers with good nutritional content is vegetables, Thus this study aims to see which growth of Brazilian spinach plants is the best and worth trying by using several types of shade treatments for climbing plants in their cultivation, with Brazilian spinach plants as one of the vegetable plants that have a lot of nutritional content. This study was conducted by evaluating the results of the growth and development of Brazilian spinach plants that were treated with several types of shade treatments for climbing plants, namely bitter melon, pumpkin, and long beans. The results of the observation data were then collected and displayed in the form of graphs and tables. Furthermore, the data was analyzed descriptively. Cultivation of Brazilian spinach plants with no shade treatment gives better growth results, meaning that Brazilian spinach grows better if it gets more sunlight, but in this study plants that were not fully shaded gave slightly better results compared to plants that were fully shaded and plants that were not shaded at all, However, this is influenced by the place of planting media, the growth of Brazilian spinach plants is better if planted directly on a large area of land compared to only being planted in pots or polybags, because the roots absorb more nutrients in the soil and the movement of roots becomes wider in a large area as well, compared to in pots or polybags. When viewed in terms of narrow land utilization, two-layer cultivation using Brazilian spinach as the bottom layer can still be used because the resulting plants also continue to grow and provide good results.
