Abstract
Research has been conducted at the Laboratory Entomology Department of Plant Pests and Diseases Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya from September to November 2011. This study aimed to determine the effect of the mixed formulations of B. thuringiensis and monosodium glutamate (MSG) on the consumption and the mortality rate of S. litura larvae. This research was conducted by Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatments, 2 Controls and 4 replications. The results of this study indicated that B. thuringiensis and MSG mixing on feed test insects was influence the ability of the test insects to consump. The highest consumption rate of larvae was 0.623 g / individue on the treatment of 0.4 g B. thuringiensis + 250 mg MSG. This data was high compared with water, control treatment (0.478 g / individu) and MSG control treatment (0.553 g / individu). The highest mortality rate of S. litura larvae was 100 % on the ffeatment of 1 g B. thuringiensis + 250 mg MSG, while the lowest one was 55 % on the treatment of 0,2 g B. thuringiensis + 250 mg MSG.
