Abstract
Hypertension is one of the diseases that is of concern throughout the world, especially in Indonesia. Based on Riskesdas data in 2023, the prevalence of the population in Indonesia with hypertension over the age of 18 years based on a doctor's diagnosis was 8.6% and hypertension based on measurement results was 30.6%. In South Sumatra, especially Palembang City, hypertension sufferers who received health services according to standards in Palembang City in 2023 based on data from the Regional Government Implementation Report were 435,336 people. This study aims to determine the relationship between sedentary work, BMI, and waist circumference with the risk of hypertension in XYZ office workers in Palembang City. This study uses a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample in this study was 63 office workers who were selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected through blood pressure checks, weight and height measurements, and filling out questionnaires related to the duration and proportion of time spent by workers in various positions or physical activities during working hours. Data analysis was carried out using the chi-square test and logistic regression. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between sedentary work behavior and the risk of hypertension and body mass index on the risk of hypertension (0,122 > 0.05). However, waist circumference had a significant relationship with the risk of hypertension (0,001 < 0,05). This study concluded that waist circumference had a significant relationship with the risk of hypertension. Promotive and preventive interventions, such as physical activity programs in the workplace, are needed to reduce the risk of hypertension in the office worker population.
