Abstract
Geopolymer pervious concrete is an environmentally friendly material innovation in the construction industry, offering both a reduction in carbon emissions due to the elimination of cement usage and effective water drainage capability. This study aims to analyze the effect of varying percentages of fly ash and metakaolin on the mechanical and physical properties of geopolymer pervious concrete, including compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, porosity, and permeability. Fly ash and metakaolin function as binding materials activated by an alkaline solution consisting of sodium silicate (Na₂SiO₃) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) in a 2.5:1 ratio. The tested fly ash to metakaolin ratios were 80:20 ; 77.5:22.5 ; 75:25 ; 72.5:27.5 ; and 70:30. The curing process was conducted at 80°C for 24 hours, with testing carried out at concrete ages of 7 and 28 days. The results showed that increasing the proportion of metakaolin enhanced both compressive and tensile strength, while decreasing porosity and permeability. The optimal mix was found at a composition of 75% fly ash and 25% metakaolin, offering a well-balanced combination of mechanical strength and drainage performance. These findings indicate that variations in binder composition significantly influence the performance of geopolymer concrete, supporting its potential for sustainable construction applications.
