Abstract

This study aims to determine the best treatment of the effect of various comparisons of planting media and doses of NPK fertilizer in peat soil and determine the feasibility of business in the cultivation of Brazilian spinach plants (Alternanthera sissoo). This research was conducted in Mulya Sari Village, Tanjung Lago District, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra. This research was conducted using the method of Completely Randomised Design Factorial (RALF) consisting of 2 factors. The first factor is the comparison of planting media (peat soil: corn stover biochar: chicken manure) which consists of 4 combinations, namely: B0 (2:1:1), B1 (2:1:2), B2 (2:2:1), and B3 (2:2:2). The second factor is the dose of NPK fertilizer with 3 levels K0 = 0% recommended dose, K1 = 50% recommended dose (2.5 g/plant), K2 = 100% recommended dose (5 g/plant). There were 12 treatment combinations with 4 replications in which each experimental unit consisted of 1 plant so that there were a total of 48 plants. The results showed that the B3P2 treatment (2:2:2 with 5 g/plant NPK) gave the highest results in most parameters, including: fresh weight of production reached 73.87 g, the number of leaves reached 90.33 strands, and the average plant height was 13.88 cm in the fourth week. The planting media treatment gave a very significant effect on all observation variables, while the NPK dosage did not show a statistically significant effect. However, the results of the economic analysis showed that none of the treatment combinations were financially profitable, characterised by R/C and B/C ratio values of less than 1. This indicates that the Brazilian spinach cultivation business with the treatments used in this study is not yet feasible to be developed on a farm scale.
