Abstract
In Indonesia, peatlands often experienced various problems, one of which was peatland degradation. Degraded peatland was essentially land that had undergone a decline in all three functions: hydrological, productive, and ecological. The decline in the hydrological function of peatlands made it easier for peatlands to catch fire during the dry season and become flooded during the rainy season. As a result of these problems, peatland plants could not survive when inundated. The research was conducted to determine the tolerance of belangeran (Shorea belangeran) plants to various levels of inundation and durations of soaking in peat soil. This research employed a Nested Randomized Group Design, using two factors: the soaking duration factor (T), which was nested within the main factor, the inundation level (P). Treatments that promoted plant growth were those where the plants were not submerged beyond the soil surface, namely P0 (control), water level 5 cm below the soil surface (P4), and water level 15 cm below the soil surface (P5). Meanwhile, treatments that inhibited plant growth were those where the water level was equal to or exceeded the soil surface, namely 15 cm above (P1), 5 cm above (P2), and 0 cm from the soil surface (P3). Thus, belangeran plants remained tolerant to all treatments of inundation level and soaking duration for up to 84 days.
