Abstract
Peat soils were widely found in Southeast Asia, especially in Indonesia. These peat soils had been degraded as a result of several human activities. Degraded peat ecosystems could be restored through peatland restoration. One example of peatland restoration activities was revegetation. Malapari (Pongamia pinnata (L.) Pierre) was a plant that could survive in degraded areas. Malapari was also a source of non-food raw materials that had the potential to be processed into biodiesel. This research was conducted to determine the tolerance of malapari (Pongamia pinnata (L.) Pierre) plants to various water levels and lengths of soaking in peat soil. The research was carried out from April to December 2024. The method used in this research was a Nested Design, using two factors, namely the soaking time factor (P), which was nested within the main factor, water level (T). Grouping was based on water level with nine replications, resulting in a total of 162 plant units. Based on the results of the study, it was found that malapari plants were tolerant to stress level treatments up to 15 cm above ground level and to soaking durations of up to 84 days. The best average value was observed in the treatment with water level 15 cm below ground surface (P5). Meanwhile, in treatments ranging from 15 cm above the soil surface (P1) to 0 cm from the soil surface (P3), malapari plants experienced limitations in growth.
