Abstract

Based on data from the Class II B Prison clinic in Muaradua, South Oku, scabies is the most common disease among inmates in this facility. The incidence of scabies was recorded at 30.2% in 2023 and increased to 43.3% in 2024, out of a total inmate population of 316. The purpose of this research is to analyze the relationship between personal hygiene and the incidence of scabies among inmates at the Class II B Prison in Muaradua, South Oku. This research is an epidemiological study using a cross-sectional with a sample size of 117 respondents chosen using proportional random sampling. In this study, the data analysis methods used indicate univariate analysis, bivariate analysis based of chi-square test, and multivariate analysis based on multiple logistic regression. The bivariate analysis results showed a significant relationship between scabies incidence and personal hygiene (p-value = 0.002) as well as clothing hygiene (p-value = 0.000). However, no significant relationship was found between scabies incidence and towel hygiene or bedding hygiene. The multivariate analysis revealed that clothing hygiene was the most influential factor in the incidence of scabies, with a p-value of 0.003, PR = 6.496, and CI = 1.857–22.726. The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant relationship between personal hygiene and clothing hygiene with the incidence of scabies in inmates, and that clothing hygiene is the most influential factor in the occurrence of scabies at the Muaradua, South Oku Class II B Prison.
