Abstract

Lanthanum Manganite (LaMnO3) is one of the perovskite materials developed through ion substitution because its structural properties can change depending on the composition of the substitution. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in the composition of Y3+, Sr2+, and Ba2+ ions substitution at site-A of the LaMnO3 structure on phase formation, crystal structure, and physical parameters such as crystal size and lattice strain in LaMnO3 materials. Synthesis was carried out on samples with two compositions, namely (La0,7Y0,05Sr0,2Ba0,05)MnO3 and (La0,7Y0,10Sr0,15Ba0,05)MnO3 using the Mechanical Alloying method. The milling process is carried out with High Energy Milling (HEM) for 5 hours, then dried and interaged at 1100°C for 5 hours. Characterization was performed using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and analyzed with Match!3, GSAS, Williamson-Hall methods, and VESTA. This research was carried out on August 20, 2024 – March 07, 2025 at the Laboratory of Magnetic Materials Preparation, BRIN, South Tangerang. The phase identification results showed that the sample (La0,7Y0,05Sr0,2Ba0,05)MnO3 formed a single phase of LaMnO3, while the sample (La0,7Y0,10Sr0,15Ba0,05)MnO3 was multiphase with the primary phase of LaMnO3 and the secondary phase of YMnO3. The crystal structure of the LaMnO3 phase in both samples has a trigonal system (hexagonal axes) with the space group R-3c, while the YMnO3 phase includes the hexagonal space group system P63cm. The crystal size and lattice strain increase as the substitution of Y3+ and Sr2+ increases, suggesting that composition variations affect the structure and physical properties of the material.
