Abstract

This study aims to synthesize and characterize the crystal structure of LaMnO3-based perovskite materials with multi-component substitution to evaluate the effect of compositional variation on phase formation, lattice parameters, crystallite size, and lattice strain. The research was conducted at PRMM, BJ Habibie Science and Technology Area (KST), BRIN, Serpong, from late 2024 to early 2025 as part of a final project by a Physics student at Universitas Sriwijaya. Two composition variants, La0.7Sr0.3(Fe0.33Cu0.33Mn0.33)O3 and La0.7Sr0.3(Fe0.25Cu0.25Mn0.25Ni0.25)O3, were synthesized using the mechanical alloying method. Characterization was performed using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), with diffraction patterns analyzed through Match! software, GSAS via Rietveld refinement, Williamson-Hall method, and VESTA for crystal structure visualization. The results showed that the Ni-free composition formed a single LaMnO3 with a cubic structure (Pm-3m), while the Ni-containing composition resulted in secondary phases, Cu6.8Fe1.2La6.4O20Sr1.6 (tetragonal, P4/mbm) and La2NiO4.24 (orthorhombic, Fmmm). The crystallite size of the Ni-containing material was smaller (53.33 nm) with higher lattice strain (0.002375), indicating greater structural distortion. Crystal structure visualization revealed atom distribution patterns consistent with these findings.
