Abstract

The problem in this study is that the issue of violence and murder against women or femicide in Mexico has reached a serious level making Mexico one of the countries with the highest femicide cases in the Latin American region besides Argentina, proving that the role of the government is still in doubt, giving rise to protests in the form of transnational social movements adopted from Argentina by Mexican women to stop the issue. So the purpose of this research is to find out how the struggle of the transnational social movement Ni Una Menos against femicide in Mexico 2016-2023. This research uses Sidney Tarrows Element of Social Movement theory which has four indicators, namely The Repertoire of Contention, Networks and Mobilizing Structure, Constructing Contention, and Political Opportunities and Threats. By using descriptive qualitative research methods and secondary data sources. The research results based on the four dimensions are: The Repertoire of Contention that this movement has done a lot of collective resistance against the government and formed a prolonged resistance. Networks and Mobilizing Structure results that the Ni Una Menos movement is bound by solidarity networks between feminist activists and mobilized by many other movement organizations such as Amnesty International and UN Women. Constructing Contention results in the spread of narratives that are able to reach the wider community. While the Political Opportunities and Threats dimension found that Mexico already has protection for activists to convey their demands, but they still get threats from the government and law enforcement and other obstacles such as high legal impunity make the issue of femicide in Mexico difficult to resolve.
