Abstract

Prenatal stress is a common psychological condition during pregnancy that can negatively affect both maternal health and fetal development. The level of stress experienced by pregnant women is influenced by various interrelated factors. This study aims to identify the factors influencing prenatal stress among pregnant women at Rika Amelia Mother and Child Hospital (RSIA) in Palembang City. This research employed a quantitative method with a descriptive-analytic design and a cross-sectional approach. A total of 73 respondents were selected through purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using multiple logistic regression to determine the relationship between independent variables (occupation, age, knowledge, physical activity, parity, and husband’s support) and prenatal stress as the dependent variable. The results showed a relationship between occupation, age, knowledge, physical activity, parity, and husband’s support with prenatal stress. Further analysis revealed that physical activity had a significant association with stress levels in pregnant women (p-value = 0.032). Pregnant women with low physical activity were 3.8 times more likely to experience stress compared to those with adequate physical activity, after controlling for other variables. It is recommended that healthcare providers encourage pregnant women to maintain adequate physical activity during pregnancy, such as prenatal yoga, pregnancy exercise, Kegel exercises, and walking. Education and family support are also essential in maintaining the psychological well-being of pregnant women.
