Abstract

The purposes of this research were to : 1) Describe the social characteristics of poor farmers household in Gandus District Palembang City, 2) Analyze the economic characteristics of poor farmers household in Gandus District Palembang City, 3) Formulate a program planning according to potentials owned by poor farmers household in Gandus District Palembang City. The research was conducted in Gandus District Palembang City. The research location was choosen intentionally and the research method was survey. The data was collected on June to July 2016. The sampling method that used Multy Stage Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling with the criterias : 1) The location choosen by the most poor farmers household, 2) The income of poor farmers household less than Rp 378.739/capita/month, 3) Land owned by the poor farmers household less than 2 hectars. Farmers samples taken as many as 45 farmers, consist of 21 poor farmers from Sub-District Gandus and Sub-District Pulokerto. The data consist of primary and secondary data. The result of this research shown that 1) Social characteristics of the sample farmers in Sub-District Gandus is an average age of 50 years, while in Sub-District Pulokerto is 51 years. The average education levels of household heads in Sub-District Gandus and Sub-District Pulokerto is graduated elementary school (SD). The average of experience of farming in Sub-District Gandus and Sub-District Pulokerto is more than 30 years. The average frequency of follow the education in Sub-District Gandus and Sub-District Pulokerto is 2-3 times a year. 2) The economic characteristics of sample farmers in Sub-District Gandus and Sub-District Pulokerto, the average of family dependents as many as four peoples, the average total income of poor farmers household in Sub-District Gandus as much as Rp 210.635,81/capita/month, while in Sub-District Pulokerto as much as Rp 245.214,84/capita/month. The average total expenditure in Sub-District Gandus as much as Rp 202.586,31/capita/month and Sub-District Pulokerto as much as Rp 200.265,63/capita/month. 3) Planning programs for poor farmers household in Gandus District is training assistance of regarding the utilization of the yard that can be used to cultivate vegetables and medicinal plant family (TOGA), aid of capital assistance to poor farmers in the form inputs production, training and provision of capital to aquaculture of tilapia and catfish.
