Abstract
The production of rubber leaf biobriquettes was carried out with variations in activation time and adhesive type, and characterized based on the SNI 01-6235-2000 standard. The rubber leaves were carbonized using a pyrolysis reactor at a temperature range of 300–600°C for 2 hours, then ground and sieved using a 60-mesh sieve. Activation was carried out using sulfuric acid solution with time variations of 8, 16, and 24 hours, as well as a control sample without activation. Biobriquettes were made using three types of adhesives: cornstarch, damar resin, and latex, and molded using a hydraulic briquette press. Characterization was conducted on moisture content, ash content, volatile matter, fixed carbon, calorific value, bulk density, and drop test. The best results were obtained from the biobriquette using damar resin adhesive with 24 hours of activation. It achieved a moisture content of 4.58%, ash content of 19.86%, volatile matter of 18.53%, fixed carbon of 57.01%, calorific value of 5,240.44 cal/g, bulk density of 0.96 g/cm³, and drop test result of 0.4%. Although it emitted a strong odor, the biobriquette with damar resin adhesive demonstrated the best physical and chemical characteristics. Based on the quality test results, only the moisture content of the damar resin adhesive biobriquette met the SNI 01-6235-2000 standard, while the other parameters did not.
