Abstract

Pagar Alam City, located in South Sumatra Province, lies within a region influenced by tectonic plate movements, making it susceptible to tectonic earthquakes. This study aims to map and analyze areas with earthquake hazard potential in Pagar Alam City using a Geographic Information System (GIS). GIS is a system designed to manage spatial data based on geographic coordinates. The analysis reveals that the Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) values range from 0.27 g to 0.46 g, with the highest PGA values found in the southern and southwestern regions of Pagar Alam City. These areas, including the South Dempo and Central Dempo districts, are susceptible to strong earthquake shocks. The Average Shear Wave Velocity in the upper 30 meters (AVS30) values range from 165 m/s to 896 m/s, with low values (<180 m/s) indicating soft soil conditions, predominantly located in the southern and southwestern regions of Pagar Alam City, including the South Dempo and Central Dempo districts. This increases the potential for earthquake wave amplification. Ground Amplification Factor (GAF) values range from 0.91 to 2.03, with the highest values also observed in the southern and southwestern parts of the city, including South Dempo and Central Dempo districts, further amplifying the earthquake wave amplitude. High PGA values, low AVS30 values, and high GAF values collectively indicate that these areas have a high potential for earthquake hazards.
