Abstract

The production of rubber leaf biobriquettes has been carried out with variations in carbonization time and variations in the concentration of dammar resin adhesive, characterized based on the SNI 01-6235-2000 standard. Rubber leaves were carbonized using a pyrolysis reactor for 60, 90, and 120 minutes at a temperature range of 400°C-500°C. The charcoal from the rubber leaves was ground, then blended until fine, and finally sieved using a 60-mesh sieve. The charcoal from the rubber leaves is then activated using sulfuric acid for 24 hours, while the variations in the concentration of the dammar resin adhesive are 10, 20, 30, and 50%. The charcoal from rubber leaves was then molded using a hydraulic briquette press. The characterization of the biobriquetteswas conducted through tests of moisture content, ash content, volatile matter content, carbon content, calorific value, density value, and drop test value. The best characterization of rubber leaf biobriquettes was obtained from charcoal that was carbonized for 120 minutes with a 10% concentration of dammar resin adhesive. The moisture content obtained was 6.91%, ash content 13.39%, volatile matter content 53.75%, carbon content 25.95%, calorific value 4895.86 cal/g, and drop test 0,006%. The results of the characterization analysis of the best rubber leaf biobriquettes showed that only the moisture content met the quality standards according to SNI 01-6235-2000, which is a moisture content of less than 8%, and the drop test analysis based on ASTM D 440-86.
