Abstract

: Latex that is utilized in the industry must have quality that is in accordance with SNI standards. One of the general requirements to obtain quality latex is to use a coagulant that is recommended. This study aims to determine the effect of honey orange extract (Citrus nobilis L.) and its combination with acetic acid as a natural coagulant and identify the quality of rubber produced. Preparation of coagulant includes the preparation of citrus extract and acetic acid. The coagulation process was carried out by adding citrus extract and acetic acid combinations into the latex with variations that have been determined. Rubber quality testing was analyzed with several test parameters including, dry rubber content, Plasticity Retention Index, mooney viscosity, dirt content, ash content and volatile substance content. The results of the study showed that citrus extract and its combination with acetic acid can be as a latex coagulant. The best coagulant clotting time conditions obtained in the treatment sample combination between 100 mL of 50% orange extract with 50 mL of 50% acetic acid with latex clotting time for 5 minutes. Based on the results of the analysis of rubber quality, the best quality rubber is obtained in the treatment of a combination of 10 mL of acetic acid with the value of dry rubber content of 39.2%; P0 and PRI of 40 and 95; mooney viscosity of 65; dirt content of 0.04%; ash content of 0.4% and volatile matter content of 0.8%.
