Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of variations in the weld and the old coconut water cooling media on the tensile strength of ST 41 steel in SMAW welding. The study used an experimental method that includes the welding process, rapid cooling, and then tensile testing. The cooling media is a medium used to lower the temperature of the metal after the heat treatment process. Cooling carried out after the welding process can change the microstructure of the welded metal. The cooling process was carried out on the welding results of ST 41 steel using the old coconut water cooling media which was varied into 2 welds, namely the V weld and the X weld. This process is useful for improving the tensile strength of the welding results without changing the chemical composition as a whole. From the results of the study, it is known that all welded objects that have been cooled in each cooling media have different tensile strength values. From the 2 types of welds used, it can be seen that the weld with the highest tensile strength value is the X weld with the old coconut water cooling media with a tensile strength value of 36.875 kgf/mm2.
