Abstract

This study aims to explore how parasocial interactions shape fans' emotional responses to the DUI case involving Suga BTS on social media X Using Horton and Wohl's theory of parasocial relationships, this research seeks to understand the process of meaning making in the dynamics of fandom and digital communication, and examine the influence of parasocial ties on online responses when controversial issues occur. This research uses a qualitative approach with a naturalistic constructive phenomenology method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation studies of BTS fans' interactions on X social media. Analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model. Data validity was conducted through method triangulation and layered verification to produce an in-depth understanding of the meaning of parasocial interactions. The results found that parasocial interactions formed a reflective and emotional space for BTS fans in the face of Suga's DUI case. Informants' responses showed disappointment and loyalty, with social media X serving as a space for expression. Fandom symbols and emotional distress shaped the dynamics of response and fandom identity. Informants' parasocial interaction with the Suga BTS case shows emotional attachment that serves as a space for self-reflection and psychological support. Despite disappointment, loyalty is still built through symbols and creative content production. Keywords: Fandom, Parasocial Interaction, Social Media X, Fan Response, Suga BTS
