Abstract

One of the problems that often occurs in Indonesia, especially in tropical regions such as Bengkulu Province, is drought that occurs when rainfall decreases extremely or prolonged. According to McKee et al. (1993), drought is a condition when rainfall is below normal in a certain period and can be measured using the SPI (Standardized Precipitation Index). This study aims to analyze the level of drought and groundwater potential by combining well measurement data (Pumping Test), soil infiltration test, and spatial data analysis such as slope slope, soil type, and land use. The Pumping Test method refers to the transmissibility and storativity parameters to see the capacity of the aquifer to store and drain water, while the infiltration test is used to find out how quickly water can seep into the soil. The research was conducted in the Talang Durian area and its surroundings, Seluma Regency, Bengkulu, which is dominated by Orthic Acrisols soil types and sandstone and clay lithology. The results showed that although some sites had a fairly high infiltration rate, very low soil permeability and small storativity values caused the groundwater recharge process to be limited. Based on SPI analysis, the region has also experienced consistent light to moderate drought in recent years. Therefore, it is recommended to mitigate drought through the construction of infiltration wells, infiltration ponds, as well as the implementation of rainwater harvesting systems and conservation-based land management.
