Abstract

The North West Java Basin is one of the major hydrocarbon basins in Indonesia that has been extensively explored and has great potential for the development of oil and gas reserves. The Baturaja Formation layer interval is the focus of the study because it has significant reservoir potential. Administratively, the research site is located in the northern Java Sea in the “ANDRI” field which is an offshore area owned by PT Pertamina Hulu Energi. This study focused on 6 research wells by identifying limestone in the Baturaja Formation through facies analysis, stratigraphic and petrophysical sequences to determine the reservoir characteristics of rocks and the influence of facies on hydrocarbon prospect zones. This research uses qualitative and quantitative methods. The qualitative analysis stage starts from lithological interpretation with core data, for analysis of stratigraphic sequences, facies, and depositional environments, correlation of each well is carried out. Furthermore, for quantitative analysis, reservoir property calculations are carried out based on petrophysical analysis such as shale volume, porosity permeability and water saturation, to determine prospect zones that contain hydrocarbons. The lithology in the study area is limestone with siltstone inserts, with lithofacies of fossiliferous packstone, fossiliferous wackestone, and fossiliferous mudstone with two types of depositional facies namely lagoonal and shoal reef which has a facies association in the form of a rimmed carbonate platform in the inner ramp depositional environment. The results of the petrophysical data calculation show that the hydrocarbon prospect zone is characterized by vshale values ranging from 22-45%, effective porosity values ranging from 15-26%, and relatively low water saturation (<65%), where wells MSH-2, MSH-3, MSH-4, and MSH-5 have criteria that meet the production well. Based on the hydrocarbon facies analysis, it is known that the shoal reef facies shows higher hydrocarbon potential than the lagoonal facies, due to the characteristics of the shoal reef facies which has better intergranular porosity and high permeability due to the deposition process in a high-energy environment with a good level of carbonate production.
