Abstract

Fisheries is a global issue whose existence threatens the sustainability of marine ecosystems and natural resources. One important effort to address this challenge is through sustainable fishery management as demonstrated by SEAFDEC in various international meetings. This research aims to analyze the role of SEAFDEC in supporting the development of sustainable fisheries in Vietnam in addressing challenges related to fishery management. This study utilizes the Role Theory of International Organizations (OI) using qualitative methods, primary data, and secondary data. The results of the study indicate that SEAFDEC has successfully played a highly significant role in supporting the development of sustainable fisheries in Vietnam, addressing challenges related to fishery management. Although the challenges faced in sustainable fishery management in Vietnam are quite large, such as overfishing, marine habitat destruction, and illegal fishing. This study concludes that SEAFDEC's efforts in supporting sustainable fisheries management in Vietnam have had significant impacts, despite the significant challenges faced. Therefore, these efforts need to be continued and strengthened through more intensive cooperation among ASEAN countries.
