Abstract

Background: Flowable composite resins were low-viscosity and cavity-adaptive restorative materials, making them suitable for minimally invasive restorations. Conventional flowable composite resins formed micromechanical bonds through an adhesive system and had no anticariogenic ability. The addition of fluoride to flowable composite resins provided anticariogenic properties that helped prevent secondary caries. Objective: To compare the shear bond strength of conventional flowable composite resin and fluorinated flowable composite resin on dentin. Method: The 20 maxillary premolar teeth were cleaned and stored in distilled water at 4°C until use. The mesial surface of the teeth was marked 2 mm above the cementoenamel junction as the preparation depth. After acrylic resin fixation, dentin surfaces were etched and bonded. Samples were randomly divided into two groups: group A (conventional flowable composite resin, n = 10) and group B (fluorinated flowable composite resin, n = 10). Both groups were filled, cured, finished, and polished. After 24 hours of water storage, samples were dried and tested for shear bond strength using a universal testing machine. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk test for normality, the Levene test for homogeneity, and the Mann-Whitney test for statistical significance. Result: The mean value of shear bond strength of conventional flowable composite resin was 16,1250 MPa and fluorinated flowable composite resin was 15,7010 MPa. The Mann-Whitney test analysis (P = 0,441) showed no significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion: There was no significant difference between the shear bond strength of conventional flowable composite resin and fluorinated flowable composite resin on dentin.
