Abstract
Introduction: Thoracic trauma is a significant cause of mortality and morbidity, particularly among the young population. The use of scoring systems plays an important role in predicting mortality rates. This study aims to determine the accuracy of the Thoracic Trauma Severity Score (TTSS) as a predictor of mortality in patients with blunt thoracic trauma. Methods: This study is a retrospective analysis of patients with blunt thoracic trauma treated at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital, Palembang, from January 2023 to January 2025. The TTSS was calculated for each subject based on assessment components including age, number of rib fractures, presence or absence of bilateral rib fractures, and pulmonary contusion. Bivariate analysis using the chi-square test was conducted, and the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve was used for evaluation. Results: A total of 38 patients with blunt thoracic trauma were included in this study. The majority of patients were male, with 29 individuals (76.3%), while 9 (23.7%) were female. Based on age distribution, the <30 years age group had the highest frequency with 12 patients (31.6%), followed by the 30–41 and 42–54 years age groups, each with 9 patients (23.7%). In the ROC curve analysis, the Area Under the Curve (AUC) for the TTSS was 0.727 (95% CI: 0.447–1.000; p = 0.082). The sensitivity and specificity of the TTSS in predicting mortality were 0.66 and 0.71, respectively, with a cutoff value of 10.5. Conclusion: The Thoracic Trauma Severity Score (TTSS) demonstrates good and accurate predictive value in assessing mortality among patients with blunt thoracic trauma at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital. Keywords: Thoracic Trauma Severity Score (TTSS), Blunt Thoracic Trauma, Mortality.
