Abstract

The demand for electrical energy in Indonesia continues to increase in line with population growth. This growing demand is not matched by adequate energy availability. One of the factors affecting the output of solar panels is pollutants such as dust, which can cover the panel surface and hinder light absorption. This study aims to compare the effects of coal dust and coconut shell charcoal dust on the output power of photovoltaic solar panels. The experiment was conducted using three panel conditions: clean (no pollutants), polluted with coconut shell charcoal dust, and polluted with coal dust. The analysis results show that the clean solar panel recorded the highest output at 14.9 watts, while coal dust caused a greater reduction in output power compared to coconut shell charcoal dust. The panel polluted with coconut shell charcoal dust produced a better average power output of 8.71 watts, compared to 6.84 watts from the panel polluted with coal dust. Additionally, the temperature of the panel polluted with coconut shell charcoal dust was recorded higher, indicating the influence of color and thermal properties of the dust types. In conclusion, the characteristics of the pollutants significantly affect the performance of solar panels, both in terms of output power and operating temperature
