Abstract

The development of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology, or drones, continues to advance and has been widely utilized across various fields, from agriculture to military applications. Alongside this progress, supporting technologies such as 3D printing have also evolved rapidly, enabling fast prototyping through CAD (Computer-Aided Design) models using layer-by-layer printing techniques. PLA (Polylactic Acid) is a commonly used material due to its ease of use and cost-effectiveness. In this final project, the author designed and fabricated a drone frame using a PLA-based 3D printer with infill variations of 5%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%, then evaluated its performance through both simulation and experimental testing. The aim of this research is to analyze the structural strength, material efficiency, and physical performance of different infill configurations. The experimental tests were focused on infill variations of 5%, 50%, and 100%. The analysis results show that the 50% infill frame delivers the most balanced performance, offering adequate rigidity, low displacement, and a safe factor of safety. Moreover, it maintains a relatively lightweight structure, with efficient print time and production cost, making the 50% infill the optimal choice compared to 5% and 100% for drone applications requiring both efficiency and strength.
