Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is a common disease that occur in the elderly people and is more susceptible to complications that can reduce the quality of health. One of the signs and symptoms experienced is neck pain and headache due to increased blood pressure. Management of hypertension in the elderly is divided into two, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapy. One of the non-pharmacological therapies that can be done is Benson relaxation therapy. Objective: To provide an overview of geriatric nursing care for the elderly with hypertension and to provide information about non-pharmacological therapy Benson relaxation therapy toward reduce blood pressure in the elderly with hypertension. Methods: The method used a case study of nursing care in three managed clients are three elderly with hypertension. Results: After nursing care and Benson relaxation therapy for 3 days to the three managed clients, there was a decrease in blood pressure. Conclusion: Benson relaxation therapy can be an alternative non-pharmacological therapy in reducing high blood pressure in the elderly with hypertension.
