Abstract
White tea (Camellia sinensis L.) contains high polyphenols such as catechins and EGCG, so that it could act as antiobesity. This study aimed to know antiobesity giving effect of white tea steepings against lipase activity. Wistar male rats were divided into five groups, which were negative control (distilled water), positive control (orlistat 2.84 mg/200gBB), and white tea steeping with graded doses of 1 g/100mL/day, 2 g/100mL/day, and 4 g/100mL/day. The rats were given a high-fat diet for 50 days to stimulate obesity. The resulting data were analyzed by ShapiroWilk and followed by one way anova and paired samples test. The results showed that white tea steepings could decrease cholesterol total significantly (α <0.05) of 5.143 ± 1.72 mg/dL (White tea steeping dose of 1 g/100mL/day) and 37.163 ± 11 mg/dL (steeping white tea dose of 4 g/100mL/day). Furthermore, white tea steeping 4 g/100mL/day were significantly (α <0.05) decreased lipase serum of 23.7 ± 0.64 U/L, maximum weight lose of 3.53 ± 1.21 g/day, and decrease feed intake amounted of 12.714 ± 1.76 g/day compared to all treatment groups. White tea steepings dose of 1 g/100mL/day were showed a difference significantly (α <0.05) in feed intake after feeding a high-fat diet and giving a treatment. It can be concluded that white tea steepings could decrease cholesterol total, lipase serum, weight, and feed intake.
