Abstract

Peatland is a type of marginal soil that is less than optimal in agricultural activities, particularly for forestry crops such as Acacia mangium. The aim of this study is to determine the level of suitability of acacia plants on peatlands and to evaluate both actual and potential land suitability. This research was conducted in July 2024-September 2024 located on peatlands of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The method used in this research is a detailed level survey method with a map scale of 1:6,000. Sampling points were determined using the Systematic Point method, based on reference points, with other points set at regular intervals. Each point is 100x100 meters apart, with a total of 8 points and peat samples were collected for soil property analysis in the laboratory. The analysis results show that several characteristics of land suitability parameters within the criteria of highly suitable (S1) and moderately suitable (S2) for acacia plant growth. These include climate characteristics (tc), water availability (wa) and oxygen availability (oa). The land suitability at the research location for acacia plants has an actual land suitability class of N-rc, nr (not suitable with the limiting factor of pH value). From the research results, the potential land suitability for acacia plants at the research location is S3-rc with an area of 1,4 ha and S1-nr with an area of 6,6 ha.
