Abstract

This study aims to examine the infiltration rate and soil permeability in rubber plantations with varying tree ages at PT. Waimusi Agroindah, as well as the influencing factors. The research was conducted in December 2024. The study area includes plantations established in 1990 (35 years old), 2014 (11 years old), and 2020 (5 years old). A detailed survey method was employed using a base map at a scale of 1:10,000. The infiltration rate was measured in the field using a double ring infiltrometer and analyzed using the Horton method. Soil samples for permeability and physical property analysis were collected using purposive sampling and examined in the laboratory. The results indicate that the highest infiltration rate was observed in the 1990 plantation, with an average of 4.36 cm hour-1, followed by the 2020 plantation at 3.93 cm hour-1 and the 2014 plantation at 3.50 cm hour-1. All values fall into the moderate category. Meanwhile, soil permeability was classified as rather slow, with values of 1.98 cm hour-1 for the 1990 plantation, 1.55 cm hour-1 for the 2020 plantation, and 0.96 cm hour-1 for the 2014 plantation. Based on these findings, it is evident that infiltration rate and soil permeability do not necessarily increase with tree age. Other factors, such as soil physical conditions and land management practices, also play a crucial role in determining infiltration and permeability characteristics in rubber plantations.
