Abstract

Background:Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a lung disorder characierized byimpaired lung function in the form of a prolonged expiratory period due to airway narrowing, whichsmoking habits, air pollution, and infections. Decreased oxygen saturation occurs due to lung tissuedamage, airway constriction, and an imbalance in the ventilation and perfusion ratio, which disruptsoxygen diffusion from the alveoli to the blood capillaries. In response to hypoxemia and increasedactually increase the work of the respiratory muscles and worsen shortness of breath of COPD patients. Deep Breathing technique is an additional intervention, after being given Nasal O2 therapy,to reduce shorness of breath and optimize oxygen saturation. It is carried out through deep breathingby developing the diaphragm muscle. The purpose of this study is to apply nursing care of deepbreathing exercise therapy intervention for COPD patients. Method: The method of the study wasqualitative research with a case study approach involving 3 COPD patients. Results:The results oftimes with a time interval of 30 minutes, Mr. A showed RR: 26x/ minute, spo2 98%, Mr. I obtaineddecreased respiratory rate and increased oxygen saturation of the three patients. Conclusion: Theintervention of deep breathing exercise therapy is effective in reducing respiratory rate and optimizingoxygen saturation of COPD pastients.
