Abstract

Leea indica (Burm.f.) Merr. is traditionally used by the Besemah tribe to treat infectious and degenerative diseases such as hepatitis, liver disorders, and warts. This study aims to identify secondary metabolite groups with potential anti-infective and degenerative activity, as well as their distribution across the vegetative organs of L. indica using histochemical tests method and to characterize the recognition fragments through microscopic observation of powdered simplicia and stem maceration preparations. Alkaloids, terpenoids, tannins, and phenols are detected in the roots, stems, and leaves, while flavonoids are detected exclusively in the leaves. The recognition fragments identified in the vegetative organs of L. indica include crystals, stomatal types, trichomes, cortical cells, xylem parenchyma, tracheae, tracheids, and fibers. The presence of scale trichomes and septate trichomes with sacs structure serves as spesific recognition fragments that can be used to verify the authenticity of L. indica in both medicinal applications and scientific research.
