Abstract

Shallots are among the most commonly cultivated hortikultura commodities by farmers in various regions. Shallots have layered reddish bulbs, cylindrical and hollow leaves, and fibrous roots. The study aimed to determine the appropriate composition of chicken manure and jengkol peel compost for the growth of shallot plants of the Bima Brebes variety. This research was conducted in Karyadadi Village, Kec. Purwodadi (3°05'22.3"S 102°59'04.2"E), Musi Rawas, South Sumatra. Conducted in December 2021 to February 2022. The study used a Factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). The first factor was the dose of jengkol peel compost (K), namely K₀ = control; K₁ = 40 tons ha⁻¹ (80 g compost/polybag); K₂ = 40 tons ha⁻¹ (160 g compost/polybag); K₃ = 40 tons ha⁻¹ (240 g compost/polybag). The second factor was the dose of chicken manure (P), namely P₀ = control; P₁ = 20 tons ha⁻¹ (104 g/polybag); P₂ = 20 tons ha⁻¹ (208 g/polybag); P₃ = 20 tons ha⁻¹ (303 g/polybag). Parameters observed included leaf length, number of leaves, number of tillers, number of bulbs, bulb diameter, fresh bulb weight, and dry bulb weight. The results showed that the interaction between jengkol peel compost and chicken manure had not significantly affected the growth and yield of shallot plants, except for the treatment with jengkol peel compost at a dose of 40 tons ha⁻¹, which gave the best results for leaf length parameter at 35 days after planting. Keywords : onions, jengkol peel compost, chicken manure
