Abstract
Background : Malocclusion is a dental condition that deviates from normal occlusion.The result of epidemiological surveys report that the high prevalence of malocclusion often occurs in 12-year-old children because it is the second transitional period from the period of mixed teeth. Preventing or reducing the severity of malocclusion in children can be done one of the actions by performing interceptive orthodontic treatment early on. Objective: To determine the prevalence of malocclusion in children aged 12 at SD Negeri 24 Palembang City. Methods: This type of research is descriptive research with a cross sectional design. Total sampling that met the criteria was 52 samples who were 12 years old and were student of SD Negeri 24 Palembang City. The study was conducted by taking intraoral photographs and intraoral examination. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively based on percentage results. Results: The results showed the prevalence of malocclusion in children aged 12 years at SD Negeri 24 Palembang City as much as 100%, Angles class I malocclusion with a prevalence 80% as many as 42 children, Angle class II malocclusion with a prevalence of 6% as many as 3 children, and Angle class III malocclusion with a prevalence of 14% as many as 7 children. Conclusion: The prevalence of malocclusion in children aged 12 years at SD Negeri 24 Palembang City was 100%. In boy as much as 52% and in girls as much as 48%
