Abstract

The poverty rate in South Sumatra Province ranks 10th highest compared to other provinces in Indonesia, even higher than Indonesia’s national poverty rate, which is ranked 12th. This is suspected to be due to the poverty occurring in the regencies/cities within South Sumatra Province. Three factors that may influence the poverty rate in the regencies/cities of South Sumatra are the number of electricity customers, the number of people accessing proper sanitation, and the number of recipients of the People’s Business Credit. This study aims to analyze the effect of the number of electricity customers, the number of people accessing proper sanitation, and the number of recipients of People’s Business Credit on the poverty rate in the regencies/cities of South Sumatra. The data used in this research are panel data from the period 2015 to 2022, with the unit of analysis being regencies/cities in South Sumatra. The analysis was conducted using multiple regression models to identify the relationship between the independent variables (the number of electricity customers, the number of people accessing proper sanitation, and the number of recipients of People’s Business Credit) and the dependent variable (poverty rate). The results of this study indicate that the number of electricity customers (X₁), the number of people accessing proper sanitation (X₂), and the number of recipients of People’s Business Credit (X₃), both partially and simultaneously, have a significant negative impact on the poverty rate (Y) with the multiple regression model Y = 17.571 – 0.113 (log X₁) – 0.043 X₂ – 0.018 X₃. These findings suggest that increasing the number of electricity customers, the number of people accessing proper sanitation, and the number of recipients of People’s Business Credit contributes to poverty reduction. This study provides important implications for economic development policies in South Sumatra, particularly in terms of expanding access to basic infrastructure, such as electricity and proper sanitation, as well as access to capital.
