Abstract

Soil infiltration rate and permeability are two important factors in determining how well the soil can absorb and drain water to support plant productivity. So it is necessary to study the infiltration rate and permeability along with influential factors. This research was conducted in an oil palm plantation at PT Waimusi Agroindah Sedyo Mulyo Village, Mesuji Raya Subdistrict, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province, then soil analysis was carried out at the Soil Department Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The research method applied is a detailed survey method with a base map scale of 1:12,500. Soil sampling was done by random sampling method based on the year of oil palm planting. Measurement of infiltration rate was carried out in the field using a double ring infiltrometer, then analyzed by the Horton method. Soil samples were analyzed in the laboratory. The results showed that the highest infiltration rate was found in the 2019 planting year oil palm plantation with an average of 6.6 cm h-1 with a rather fast category, followed by the 2004 planting year at 5.90 cm h-1, and the 2008 planting year at 5.30 cm h-1. Meanwhile, the highest soil permeability value was obtained by the 2019 planting year oil palm plantation at 6.85 cm h-1 with a rather fast category. While in the 2008 planting year oil palm plantation amounted to 6.06 cm hour-1 in the medium category, while in the 2004 planting year oil palm plantation amounted to 5.55 cm hour-1 in the medium category. From the results obtained, it can be concluded that differences in planting age can affect the value of infiltration rate and soil permeability along with supporting factors, such as soil physical properties and organic matter. Keywords: Infiltration rate, oil palm, soil permeability.
