Abstract

This study examines the influence of foreign direct investment, trade openness, and renewable energy on economic growth in the ASEAN region using secondary data from the World Bank for the period 1998 to 2022. The analysis technique used is panel data regression with the Auto Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) method using the Pooled Mean Group (PMG) approach, which allows analysis of the influence of short-term and long-term variables between. The results of the study show that in the short term, foreign direct investment and trade openness have a positive and significant effect on economic growth. However, in the long term, both show a negative and significant effect. In contrast, renewable energy has a positive effect on economic growth, with a significant effect in the long term but not significant in the short term. This insight helps explain the extraordinary role of foreign direct investment, trade openness and renewable energy in supporting economic growth in ASEAN. The findings of the study can help policymakers in designing more effective and sustainable economic strategies.
